Three astounding musicians with a passion for musical adventure and surprise, performing the compositions of Frank Zappa. The supreme genius of the counterculture of the 1960s was the Los Angeles composer, arranger, freak and jester Frank Zappa (169). Zappa was more than a brilliant and prolific composer. He was a new kind of composer, one who knew no stylistic barrier: he bridged rock and pop and rhythm’n‘blues and jazz and classical music. And one who knew no rules of harmony: he would play anything that made sense to him, not to a certain tradition.
Returning to Australia to present this special concert is Alessandra Garosi, an exceptional pianist of international standing based in Italy, from a classical background but with a passion for many styles of music. This is exemplified by her work with Harmonie Ensemble, who are known for their chamber ensemble versions of the music of Frank Zappa.
The concert will include two other virtuosic musicians, well known to Melbourne audiences. Multi-instrumentalist and composer, Adam Simmons has been collaborating with Alessandra for several years since they first met at Alternativa Festival (Prague 2010), with the release of their “Melting Pot” CD recorded in Tuscany (2013), and launched at the 2014 Festival of Slow Music.
Joining them will be master drummer and MRC favourite, David Jones, who performed with Alessandra at Melbourne Recital Centre as part of Adam’s commissioned work for the Quiddity Project in 2014.
Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre and Adam Simmons
