After the wonderful collaboration in February with Kate, David and the MSO, David will be joining Kate, Keir and a string quartet at the Port Fairy Spring Festival. David will also be part of the Closing Event of the Festival on Sunday afternoon in the event “All One Mongrel Breed”.
Kate Miller-Heidke – “the finest vocals in Australian music”
Kate Miller-Heidke’s monumental voice will be on full display for one night only, as she effortlessly switches between the hymnal-quiet hushes and operatic, glass-breaking siren calls of her favourite hits. Here for the first time with all-new string quartet arrangements from Festival Director Iain Grandage, she’ll also perform excerpts from her multi-Helpmann Award winning adaption of the Shaun Tan/John Marsden book ‘The Rabbits’, which she created for Opera Australia and International Arts Festivals around the country, and was received with such acclaim by all who saw it.

and then on Sunday at 3.30pm, the closing event of the Port Fairy Spring Festival: All One Mongrel Breed
“… we’re all one mongrel breed…” With one small turn of phrase, Jimmy Chi’s subversive joy welcomes us all into his vision
for Australia, and reminds us collectively that the things which connect us far outweigh those
that divide us. This concert of choir-centred songs ranging
from Italian migrant tunes lead
by Kavisha Mazzella to the hymns of the late, great Jimmy Chi will
be a joyous finale to our Festival
of Migrations. Join us as choirs of Port Fairy locals are lead by a range of Festival artists through songs of roving and remembrance, as we embark on our own journeys home.
